On behalf of CESIO, a sector group of Cefic (The European Chemical Industry Council) representing producers of surfactants and their intermediates in Europe, we invite you to contribute with your oral or poster presentation to the next World Surfactant Congress which will take place in Dublin from 7th to 9th June 2027. This industry-renowned congress will provide dedicated time and space for networking and will offer – of course – first-class presentations and posters in the fascinating capital city of Ireland, known for its vibrant culture and excellent conference facilities.

The theme of the Congress is:

Surfactants – Performance – Sustainability: Addressing tomorrow’s challenges

Surfactants are essential enablers of performance and sustainability across home and personal care, crop protection, textile and leather processing and finishing, industrial and institutional cleaning, and a wide range of specialty applications. Through considerable progress in surfactant design, raw materials, and formulation science, our industry directly contributes to climate-neutral and circular value chains. The surfactants industry has a tremendous breadth and depth of expertise in bringing ingredients together in order to meet advanced formulation challenges and solutions (e.g. cleaning performance, rheology control, multi-functional additives, low-temperature performance, stability, and sensory benefits). Our industry is therefore well positioned to help downstream users adapt to supplier changes and identify new business opportunities.

An important role of our industry organisation, CESIO, is to provide surfactant-related knowledge and ensure that any industry regulations developed are based on facts, good science and recognized testing protocols. As regulations and raw material chains develop, there will be both restrictions and new opportunities opening up. This will affect surfactants as well as biocides, solvents, polymers, and other ingredients.

We therefore invite industry experts, academic researchers and students to submit presentations and posters that cover surfactants technology & applications, regulatory and business innovations along the surfactant value chains, with a focus on home and personal care. At CESIO 2027, we will also highlight chemical formulations for crop protection, which is of increasing interest.

Sustainability underpins corporate strategy and the development of business models. To recognise this, we particularly encourage contributions demonstrating quantified improvements in carbon footprint, energy use, resource efficiency, or environmental impact of surfactant systems, supported by Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA or other robust methodologies. We welcome contributions that share methodologies, models or tools that advance the digitalisation (in particular the use of AI) in surfactant R&D and application development and also in production.

Please note that the thoughts above are intended as inspiration and guidance only.
Proposals for papers on other surfactant-related topics are also most welcome.

The programme committee, which has been established to select the most promising abstracts for oral and poster presentations, comprises experts from leading surfactant producers, associations and scientific institutes, ensuring a balanced and forward-looking programme of the congress.

• The period for submission of abstracts for Oral presentations closes on Tuesday, 19 January 2027.
• The period for submission of abstracts for Poster presentations closes on Tuesday, 23 March 2027.
• Every speaker at the congress will be granted free access to the event at the day of the presentation and will automatically enter the contest for CESIO 2027 Awards – one award for the best poster and one award for the best presentation in each cluster.
